Made in Malta: the family and the expertise behind Bitesy

Most pet food is made a long way from the people who buy it, by companies that do not put their name on the bag. Bitesy is different in a way you can visit: it is developed by Pet Nutrition House Ltd., a family-owned pet food company based in Malta, and the people who formulate it are the people who answer the phone.

A Maltese company that feeds pets in 85 countries

Pet Nutrition House began as a Maltese business serving Maltese pet owners and has grown into an EU manufacturer whose products are sold by importers and distributors in more than 85 countries, from Europe to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. That reach was built on one idea: keep the ingredients fresh, natural and honest, and print the full composition on the pack. Bitesy is the range where that idea is taken furthest, with every recipe's composition, analytical constituents and additives published on this website.

Why Malta

Malta sits in the middle of the Mediterranean, a few hours by sea from Italy, North Africa and the eastern Mediterranean. For a pet food maker that means two things. Ingredients such as fresh seabream, seabass, swordfish and carob come from the region rather than the other side of the world, and finished products reach partners quickly through well-connected ports. It also means EU food-safety law, EU labelling rules and full batch traceability on every product that carries the Bitesy name.

Research and development, in house

Recipes are developed by an in-house team rather than bought off the shelf, which is how ranges as different as Essentials (everyday, complete, 20 kg bags) and Platinum (mono- and dual-protein, fresh fish, 3 and 12 kg bags) can share one philosophy. Every recipe is formulated by our international teams together with the team at our head office in Malta, and produced to our specifications under European food-safety standards. The same team develops private-label products for retailers and brands abroad, work that keeps the company close to what pet owners in different markets actually want.

What "Mediterranean ingredients" means in practice

It is easy to print a sunset on a pack. In Bitesy it means specific things you can find on the composition line: fresh seabream and seabass in the Platinum dual-protein recipes, carob in the Essentials dry foods, tuna and herring in the cat recipes, parsley and turmeric in the hypoallergenic formulas. Where an ingredient is Mediterranean it is because it is the best available locally, not because it fits the story.
